We need to ask the obvious questions in order to get the obvious answers. It seems that many of us chase after stuff without acknowledging that it is not stuff that we really want.
How do you really want to live? I don’t mean what car do you want to drive or what career path you want to pursue. I mean, what do you want to fully experience with the time you have left?
What Do I Desire?
Alan Watts, the narrator of the video above makes a very keen observation that many of us seek money by doing things we don’t like to do. Then, we take the money and continue doing what we hate on an endless cycle without ever having truly lived.
I doubt you want to live that way. I certainly don’t. So, the question is how would you really like to spend your life?
Life is Today
It seems so obvious, but life is only lived in the present moment. We can’t time travel (yet) and we can’t live in a perpetual state of discontent about our present while expecting to discover happiness.
Happiness is now. It is today. Life, joy, love, art, and beauty are all experienced in the present moment.
We can begin to live today by acknowledging the beauty around us. Be willing to let yourself be thankful for what you already have, instead of writhing in a constant state of wanting more.
I’m not saying this is easy. I suck at finding beauty in the moment. However, I know this stuff matters.
I know I should metaphorically stop and smell the roses as often as possible.
When Life Works List
While listening to the SUCCESS Magazine CD a few months ago I heard Darren Hardy interviewing Sean Stephenson. Sean is an incredibly unique guy who has an addictive joy for life that you can’t miss.
Sean developed a list that included everything that makes his life work well. It’s an incredibly simple idea that can spark a lot of change in your daily habits.
Watch Sean explain the When Life Works List. You will appreciate how Sean and I view life in a very similar way. It’s freaky.
I created my own “When Life Works List” and it has been very transformational in my daily growth and ability to experience the here and now. I listed a few of my ideas here.
When My Life is Working, I am . . .
Running or hiking in the woods
Staying very hydrated
Eating fresh, raw, juicy fruit
Being super creative
Working on a challenging project
Socializing with people I love
When Does Your Life Work?
What are you doing? How often? With others or by yourself?
When you know what makes your life flow, you can more easily integrate those strategies into your daily routine. Give it a try.
